Ralph Bodle (né Czarnecki)

Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute and Ecologic Legal, specialising in international and European environmental law and policy.

Ralph has been particpiating in the UN climate negotiations since 2008 as part of the German delegation and the EU negotiating team, focusing on legal aspects of climate finance, the Paris Agreement and the climate regime’s architecture. He is also involved in other international environmental negotiations such as the Global Pact for the Environment. He leads and works on projects on international Trust Funds, soil protection and land degradation neutrality, geoengineering, the pollutant release and transfer register (PRTR) .

Before joining Ecologic Institute, he was a practising lawyer at law firms advising and representing the public sector on environmental and public law.

He has a PhD in law from Humboldt University, Berlin, following a thesis on distributional justice in international environmental law with Prof. Dr. Kloepfer and Prof. Dr. Tomuschat. He worked as an academic at Humboldt University, where he taught public and international law. He was also a lecturer in administrative law at the Berlin Academy for Administration.

He has a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in environmental law from UCL College, University of London, and a Diploma in international humanitarian law from the International Committee of the Red Cross. In addition to an internship at the United Nations in New York, he also worked in New York at the International Center for Law in Development during his legal training.

Ralph Bodle studied law and English at the University of Bochum, Germany, and Queen Mary University of London.
